VISION

A successful school is the site of curiosity, opportunity, creativity, and hope for every student.

I believe that all learners deserve to be known and acknowledged for their unique qualities, cared for genuinely, equipped to learn in accessible and authentic ways, and nurtured to internalize the belief that they have distinct value and unlimited potential in this world. People will not strive to achieve more than they believe is possible. We must make them believers.

As a learning leader, I am committed to building and sustaining an open culture of relentless optimism, curiosity, and innovation. In this space, every learner will be growing and every educator will be making a difference.

Defining School Culture

I also believe that a school's cultural values, beliefs, and symbols must be attended to holistically. The stories and artifacts of positive culture must be ever-present in a school, and a deep commitment to equity and high expectations must be cultivated and sustained. A common language of shared purpose must be evident throughout, with stories and traditions that engender pride in belonging for all members of the school community including parents and families.

Restorative Practices

I believe that helping children and young adults to become reflective and responsible people, rather than simply compliant ones, should be our primary goal in fostering both academic achievement and prosocial behavior. A commitment to a restorative mindset as well as to restorative practices starts with an acknowledgment that relationships are the oxygen of learning, and that children and adults alike will do well if they are able. When a person is struggling, they deserve to be heard and understood and to have an opportunity to reflect, repair, and grow. Restorative practices are founded solidly on relationships and dialogue, where conflicts are an opportunity to learn, to strengthen interpersonal connections, and to build stronger community.
